Kenya-based wildlife photographer and photography tour leader Dhir Jakharia joined Apex Wild Expeditions for a private photography experience in Kumana in April 2026.

The Person Behind Apex Wild Expeditions
FIELD EXPERIENCE. PHOTOGRAPHIC UNDERSTANDING. PERSONAL GUIDANCE.
For me, wildlife photography has never been simply about finding an animal. It is about understanding behaviour, anticipating what may happen next, reading the light and being in the right position when the moment unfolds.
Since 2021, I have spent extensive time photographing Sri Lanka’s wildlife across Kumana, Yala, Wilpattu, Sinharaja and the elephant landscapes of Minneriya and Kaudulla.
Kumana holds a particularly important place in my journey. As an active member and contributor to the Kumana Leopard Identification Program, I have developed a deeper understanding of individual leopards, their territories, movements and behaviour, knowledge that I bring into the field when guiding photographers.
Today, I have personally hosted and guided 30+ international wildlife photographers from across Europe, the USA, Asia and the Middle East. Every Apex expedition is supported by my carefully selected core team of experienced drivers and wildlife photographers, all sharing the same objective: creating the strongest possible photographic opportunities while respecting the wildlife we photograph.
